Dale Dixon speaking to an audience during a presentation workshop

Executive Communication Coaching

Communicate clearly when the stakes are high.

You already know your business. The challenge is making sure your communication holds up when the room gets tense, the questions get difficult, or the camera turns on.

Dale Dixon works with executives to prepare for those moments before they arrive.

When the pressure changes

The communication skill you use every day is not always the one that shows up under pressure.

A normal leadership meeting is different from presenting to the board. Answering a familiar question is different from being challenged publicly. Talking with your team is different from talking into a camera.

Explaining a strategy is different when jobs, money, reputation, trust, or an important decision may be affected by what happens next.

  • Rush or over-explain
  • Hedge or tighten up
  • Become overly scripted
  • Lose connection with the room
  • Answer a different question than the one asked
  • Go blank

Communication under pressure is a different skill. And like any skill, it improves with deliberate practice.

The work underneath the work

This is not presentation polish.

The goal is to make clear thinking, useful presence, and real connection available when pressure would normally make them harder to reach.

Readiness before crisis

Prepare for difficult moments before they become urgent.

Clarity before performance

Get the thinking and message clear before worrying about delivery.

Presence before polish

The goal is not to look perfect. The goal is to remain connected, credible, and useful.

Practice under realistic pressure

Do not merely rehearse slides. Rehearse difficult questions, interruptions, objections, uncertainty, cameras, transitions, and moments where the plan may change.

Work on what happens when pressure rises

Technique matters, but technique that disappears under pressure is not very useful. The work helps a leader access their skills when they actually need them.

Who Dale works with

For capable leaders with something important riding on the communication.

The work is suited to accomplished people whose roles place greater weight on how they communicate.

Dale works with CEOs, senior executives, founders, business owners, organizational leaders, and subject-matter experts preparing for high-visibility communication.

An engagement may begin because one specific moment is approaching, or because the role itself is becoming more visible.

  • An important board or executive presentation is approaching
  • Media interviews or on-camera communication are becoming part of the role
  • Difficult Q&A is becoming a more important part of the role
  • Communication becomes too cautious or complicated under challenge
  • A major announcement or organizational change needs to be communicated well

How coaching works

We work on the moments that actually matter.

The work is shaped around the leader, the situation, and the pressure points that matter most. The process stays practical and specific.

  1. 01

    Understand the situation

Identify the audience, stakes, desired outcome, communication environment, and pressure points.

  2. 02

    Find what changes under pressure

Look for what happens to the leader's message, delivery, listening, pace, clarity, and presence when the stakes increase.

  3. 03

    Practice the difficult moments

Rehearse the actual communication environment whenever practical, including hard questions and unexpected turns.

  4. 04

    Build repeatable tools

Develop practical ways to prepare, organize thinking, regulate pace, handle questions, and remain connected that the leader can use without Dale in the room.

What we can work on

Bring the real communication challenge.

  • Board and executive presentations
  • High-stakes Q&A and difficult questions
  • Media interviews and on-camera communication
  • Important speeches and high-visibility presentations
  • Leadership communication during change
  • Message clarity and executive presence under pressure

What clients say

Preparation should show up when the pressure does.

“We bring Dale back year after year because he does his research, comes prepared, and meets our group where they are. Students leave with practical tools they can use when media calls and there is little time to prepare.”

Paul ArringtonExecutive Director and General CounselIdaho Water Users Association (IWUA)

“I wanted the attendees to see the diversity of our leaders, but our leaders were not polished speakers and they were at several different levels of comfort in front of an audience.

Dale's work with us inspired confidence and won over leaders on both ends of the spectrum. When our conference arrived, our leaders were relaxed, confident and they gave the best presentations of their careers up to that point.”

A useful distinction

Coaching works best when the leader wants to be coached.

Dale's role is not to turn someone into a different personality. The work helps an already-capable leader become more intentional, prepared, and effective in moments where communication carries more weight.

The leader needs to be willing to practice, receive feedback, experiment, and do the work. This is not cosmetic polish performed on someone who has no interest in changing.
